29 November 2011: Photo Shows, Occupy, Benign Neglect, NYC
Hey! It's been a little while. Since we last chatted I've been shooting some of the Occupy stuff here in the Bay Area off and on. Like this little piece I did for Mother Jones. I was out on my lunch break, stumbled on a march and found myself in a totally taken over Bank Of America -- with only one roll of film to shoot. Some of those photos are in a one day photo show/panel discussion hosted by Salon.com.

If you find yourself thirsty in Oakland, head over to Geo. Kayes, a quiet corner bar at 41st/Broadway. I also have a bunch of photos from my Sweat (Stains) project hanging.

Speaking of projects, Hamburger Eyes released a new zine of my work, Benign Neglect. Like Sweat (Stains), this was beautifully designed by Magnificent Mike McQuade.

Otherwise it's been pretty quiet. I made a trip to NYC for PhotoPlus (doing portfolio reviews) and got to meet Danny Clinch and Jimmy McMillian. Double whammy!
9 September 2011: HamEyes and stuff
I've got a few prints up in this year's Hamburger Eyes art auction. Prints of the Mummies, Scratch Acid, Dead Weather, and some others. Bid hard.

In other news, it looks like I'll have a little photo show of the Sweat (Stains) work going up at my favorite local bar, Geo. Kaye's. Maybe not illustrious but as much time as I've spent in that place, I'm pretty excited. It's pretty much the perfect bar.

I'll be in New York the last week of October, at PhotoPlus, doing portfolio reviews on Thursday. Otherwise it'll be lots of catching up and meeting people I've only gotten to email or talk to on the phone. Also, WFMU record fair! I'm pretty excited. It's been four years since I've gotten out to New York. Inexcusable!
03 June 2011: Haiti, again
Geez, it took a while, but I finally got a (long) edit of Haiti images up on the site.
27 May 2011: Tumbln
I've decided to just start using Tumblr for my photoblog. I used to have like three different photoblogs, none of them updated very frequently. I'm just going to start posting all my new stuff on CITY SLANG from now. Check it out.
26 May 2011: American Photography 27
The photo I shot for Dead Weather's "Blue Blood Blues" 45 (Third Man Records) won a Chosen spot in American Photography 27. While it's not going to be in the printed annual, I'm stoked to even have the photo picked for their website!
18 May 2011: Chris Buck!
Every once in a while my day job as a photo editor intersects with my moonlighting as a photographer. Like HERE. Chris Buck posted a little photo I shot while on set with him while he was photographing an assignment for Mother Jones magazine. Woot.
7 April 2011: New zine out now!
Hamburger Eyes has published a new zine of my more recentish music photography!

It's called Sweat (Stains), a title borrowed from the photo exhibit* curated by Erik Farseth at the Stevens Center for the Art in Minneapolis, of which some of these photos were a part. 32 pages, lazzzer printed, designed by the incredible Mike McQuade (who worked on the Jim Beam campaign I shot). Good times.

26 January 2011: Haiti
Just returned from a two week trip to Haiti for Mother Jones. Covered the one year anniversary of the earthquake and got surprised -- as did everyone else -- by Baby Doc's return trip. It was quiet an exhausting few days, racing around covering Jean-Claude. I got a full-page photo in Newsweek and Mother Jones ran a number of photos from the trip as well.

Looks like I'll be at the Palm Springs Photo Festival again this year, reviewing portfolios. I always love going down for that.
1 December 2010: Midnite Snaxxx
Been relatively quiet around here. Did a quick shoot for the American Review, a journal based out of Sydney. Got to shoot a portrait for the Financial Times. Most exciting though, I shot the cover for Oakland super-group MIDNITE SNAXXX's debut single!
17 September 2010: Dead Weather, again
Hey, one of the photos I shot of Dead Weather awhile back is the cover of their new 7", "Blue Blood Blues." Check it out here.
28 April 2010: Dead Weather
A few weeks ago I got a chance to shoot both Dead Weather shows at the Fillmore, as well as some new press photos of the band. It was my first time ever seeing anything at the Fillmore, let alone shooting there. I have to say (with one exception), the security there was the nicest, easiest going bunch of security people I have ever, ever dealt with. I usually shy away from large shows like that, largely because of the security. Who the hell wants to deal with assholes when you're just trying to do your job? Anyway, I had a totally great time, got lots of excellent live shots and even got some portraits of the band I'm into (a few photos are on the site). Big thanks to Alison, Lalo and all of Dead Weather for helping out with that. Hopefully I can work with you guys again soon!
Oh Yeah, I have a BOOK.
Today my boss asked why I didn't have a link to my book on my website. Ooooh yeah. I'm bad at the self-promotion thing.

So, I have a self-made book, on Blurb. It's called Live/Loud and is a collection of my band photos, live and on tour. Dig It, Buy It! (please)

8 April 2010: Lürzers Archive 200 Best Ad Photographers
Crazy at it is to believe (to me anyway), I have been included in the 2010/11 Lürzers Archive 200 Best Advertising Photographers collection, for the work I did with Jim Beam's "Here's to the Stuff Inside" campaign.
24 March 2010: Rumpus
Interview with me in Rumpus!
23 March 2010: New Day/Rising
This new site is finally coming together, but still a bit rough around the edges. But I figure it'll always be a little rough around the edges, never quite finished, never quite right. I hope you enjoy what's here nonetheless.
